Molecular Pathology, Genetics & Genomics
The Molecular Pathology, Genetics & Genomics (MPGG) Division is comprised of the Clinical Molecular Diagnostics (MDx) and Clinical Cytogenetics laboratories with administrative and medical oversight provided by the DUHS Department of Pathology. MPGG is a College of American Pathologist (CAP) accredited, CLIA certified, state of the art, multidisciplinary laboratory dedicated to providing patients and health care providers with comprehensive and accurate cytogenetic and molecular testing. Our laboratory provides a wide range of DNA- and RNA-based tests for inherited genetic diseases, hematologic malignancies, solid tumor malignancies, and infectious diseases, all of which are performed at the Duke University Health System Consolidated Laboratories on the Duke University Hospital Campus. The Clinical Molecular Diagnostics and Clinical Cytogenetics laboratories are housed together to provide a comprehensive, integrated approach to cytogenetic and molecular testing, both diagnostic and prognostic. MPGG is actively engaged in service, teaching, and test development that focuses on individualized patient care and service to our clinician clients.

Laboratory Accreditation and Licenses
MPGG is committed to providing the highest quality testing with highly trained staff, licensed professional, and laboratory personnel. The laboratory holds the following current certifications of accreditation and licensure:
Duke University Hospital Clinical Laboratories CLIA Certificate (CLIA: 34D0696636)
Duke University Hospital Clinical Laboratories CAP Certificate (CAP Number: 4319001)
Translational Medicine
One of the missions of the MPGG division is to serve as the outlet for true translational research for our Duke University Medical Center scientists. To this end, our laboratory has a dedicated group of test development technologists, scientists, and physicians to bring discoveries from the bench top to the bed side.
Education and Training
We are committed to training the next generation of genomics scientists and clinicians. Our faculty and technologists provide training opportunities to a wide range of learners including medical students, genetic counseling graduate students, and post-doctoral students, including residents and fellows. We offer two different post-doctoral training programs:
Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) Fellowship Program
The LGG Fellowship Program provides MD and/or PhD post-doctoral fellows with training experience in both the Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories under the faculty leadership boarded by the ABMGG in both cytogenetics and molecular genetics. The fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition to experience in a wide range of laboratory techniques and clinical test analysis and reporting training for constitutional/germline testing, hematologic malignancy testing, and solid tumor testing, this two-year training program also provides exposure and rotations through multiple medical genetics clinics, Duke Biochemical Genetics Laboratory, and other diagnostic laboratories within DUHS.
Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) Fellowship Program
The MGP Fellowship Program provides post-doctoral MD pathologist fellows with advanced clinical training in a wide variety of constitutional and oncologic clinical tests under the faculty leadership. This one-year fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
